What the Director's Cut changes for accessibility

The accessibility work that missed the May launch ships with the Director's Cut. The design director and the head of engineering set out what it covers.

  • Input: every control can be remapped, on keyboard, mouse and controller alike, and holds can be turned into clicks or clicks into holds.
  • Reading: text size and speed, a dyslexic font, outline thickness and colour for text and items, interface colours, a high-contrast setting, and a photosensitivity mode that removes bright flashes.
  • Sound: on-screen cues for sounds such as a ringing phone, mono panning, high and low pass filters, and separate volume for music, effects and voices.
  • Setup: accessibility options are offered before the first playthrough starts, controller vibration can be reduced or turned off, and 21:9 and 32:9 displays are supported.

The game also explains more often why it has entered a given state, and the journal is meant as the reminder of what you are working on and where you are going.
